State Quarters

30 October at BV Southwest (1-4)

Well, not sure how things play out if we don't lose Colling there with the score still 1-1 and about 20 to go, but as soon as he left, they scored to make it 2-1, virtually ending the game.

We chose not to look too much like a soccer team tonight as we continually bypassed the midfield looking to keep the ball out of our half and hopefully to create some deadballs. Now we ended up not creating very many.  We did cash one early to take a 1-0 lead, a lead we held up until just before the half.

So strategically it appeared we had the right idea, but we ended up giving up 3 goals in the last twenty minutes—so it is hard to say "well,  that was a good plan." But if Colling doesn't cramp up, maybe we are still playing, although we were statless in the second half.

We have to hand it to the boys for giving it their all—we played without Payne, and Farrar and Neely. That is a lot of missing lumber, but we still put ourselves in a position to win the match after 60 minutes.

I can't imagine someone beating Southwest, but I know soccer can be a strange game sometimes.  They are very good, and they seem a large favorite in 5A.

We did end the match with all of our able-bodied seniors on the pitch. That's quite a class, and we appreciate all they have given to STA and STA Soccer.
